Plateau AG Responds to FIJ’s Report, Calls for Removal from Non-Compliant List

Plateau State has responded to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) regarding its inclusion in a report that listed the state among those that failed to publish their 2024 Financial Statements.
The state is urging FIJ to “promptly correct their publication and remove Plateau State from the list of non-compliant states.”
The FIJ’s publication, titled “It’s Past Deadline, 5 States Fail to Publish 2024 Financial Statements,” named Plateau State as one of six Nigerian states that had yet to publish their audited financial statements for the fiscal year 2024.
In a swift reaction, Plateau State’s Accountant General, Mrs. Naanret A. Manset, refuted the FIJ’s claims, asserting that the state “fully complied with all statutory timelines for the preparation, audit, and publication of its 2024 audited financial statements.”
In her statement, titled “Plateau State Complied with Deadline for Audited Financial Statements,” Mrs. Manset clarified that the state submitted its financial statement to the Auditor-General in May 2025, well within the stipulated six-month period.
She added that the audit was completed in June 2025 and subsequently forwarded to the House of Assembly, also within the required three-month timeframe.
According to her, the financial statement was approved by the House of Assembly and published online on July 30, 2025, which is below the legal deadline of nine months.
While reiterating the state’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and timely financial reporting, the Accountant General asked FIJ to “promptly correct their publication and remove Plateau State from the list of non-compliant states.”

PLATEAU STATE COMPLIED WITH DEADLINE FOR 2024 AUDITED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
The attention of the Office of the Accountant-General of Plateau State has been drawn to a publication by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) titled “It’s Past Deadline, 5 States Fail to Publish 2024 Financial Statements”, which wrongly lists Plateau State as a defaulter.
For the record, Plateau State fully complied with all statutory timelines for the preparation, audit, and publication of its 2024 audited financial statements:
• Submitted to the Auditor-General in May, 2025 which is within the stipulated period of 6months;
• Audit completed in June, 2025 and forwarded to the House of Assembly which is also within the stipulated period of 3months;
• Approved by the House of Assembly
• Published online on 30th July 2025, below the legal timeline of 9months.
