ECWA Urges Business Units to Embrace Professionalism, Profitability, Faith-Based Governance

• Church concludes 3-day leadership retreat to reposition enterprises for kingdom impact

The Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, has charged all its Strategic Business Units to operate as professionally managed, profit-driven entities to advance God’s mission effectively.

The charge was given during a three-day leadership retreat for the ECWA Executive Committee and heads of SBUs held at Kini Country Home Hotels, Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

Declaring the retreat open, ECWA President, Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat, said the gathering was strategic for rebranding the church’s mission and business operations.

Speaking on the theme: “Corporate Governance for Sustainable Performance: Aligning ECWA Business Enterprises with the Expectations of a Faith-Based Shareholder,” Rev. Bagat stressed that ECWA institutions exist not merely for financial returns.

“Their purpose is to advance God’s kingdom through integrity, accountability, and excellence,” he said.

He cited 1 Corinthians 4:2 and Proverbs 11:3, urging leaders to uphold faithful stewardship and uprightness as the foundation of their governance.

Delivering the keynote address, ECWA General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Ayuba Asheshe, said good corporate governance builds institutions that inspire confidence and create long-term value.

He noted that ECWA’s position as a faith-based shareholder demands more than legal compliance.

“Our businesses must demonstrate excellence in financial performance, governance integrity, and strict adherence to Christian values,” Rev. Asheshe stated.

Dr. Victor Oshadare, Group Managing Director of Better Ways Group and resource person at the retreat, charged ECWA SBU leaders to run their departments as “God’s own business” rather than charity organizations with no turnover.

He stressed the need for the highest professional standards and urged directors to prioritize value creation, revenue generation, and strategic thinking.

“Harness new energy and momentum, carry your teams along, and deliver sustainable business results for God’s glory,” Dr. Oshadare said.

“Financial strength will significantly ease ministry and service work.”

The three-day event brought together Directors, Board Chairmen, Company Secretaries, and strategic heads of units for extensive brainstorming sessions aimed at strategizing for effective performance in their various companies.

ECWA leadership said the outcomes of the retreat will guide efforts to ensure all church enterprises align with kingdom values while achieving sustainable performance.
