PLASU Commits to Producing World-Class Pharmacists
Plateau State University (PLASU) has reaffirmed its dedication to producing graduates of the highest caliber who can compete on a global stage.
During a recent meeting with the Plateau State branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Vice Chancellor Professor Shedrack Best emphasized that the university is setting rigorous standards for its new Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
“I am not prepared to train pharmacists from PLASU who will play second fiddle to anyone,” Professor Best declared.
He assured the PSN of the university’s commitment to quality training and pledged, “We will provide everything needed to ensure our graduates are competitive and well-equipped.”
The Vice Chancellor highlighted PLASU’s determination to offer a comprehensive and professional training experience.
He noted, “We fully understand the demands of the pharmacy program, including the necessary equipment and resources. We are committed to providing everything essential for professional training.”
Professor Best also expressed the university’s support for the PSN and other professional bodies, promising to collaborate with them to ensure the success of their training, research, and ethical standards.
He further pledged support for the upcoming World Pharmacists’ Day in September.
Pharmacist Meshach Dayol, speaking on behalf of the Plateau State Chairman of the PSN, congratulated Professor Best on his appointment, asserting, “There couldn’t have been a better person for the job than you.”
Mr. Dayol, also acknowledged Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s support for the PSN, which contributed to the establishment of the new faculty at PLASU.
Dr. Dauda Dangiwa, Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice at the University of Jos, commended PLASU for its proactive approach in consulting professionals to lay a solid foundation for the new faculty.
He remarked that pharmacy is a demanding profession that requires substantial investment in training and equipment.
Dr. Dangiwa assured PLASU of the association’s full support for the faculty’s official launch in October.
The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of six new faculties approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in January and has already begun admitting students for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Highpoint of the meeting was the presentation of an award of recognition to Professor Best for his appointment and his role in advancing pharmaceutical training at PLASU.
