THERE IS AN ONGOING CHRISTIAN GENOCIDE IN NIGERIA – ECWA

• Cautions FG Against ‘Insecurity Sympathizers’

“We, the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), therefore, categorically affirm that there is an ongoing Christian genocide in Nigeria.”

Above were the words of the ECWA General Secretary, Rev. (Dr) Ayuba Asheshe, while addressing journalists in Jos, Plateau State.

Stating ECWA’s position on the ongoing debate on Christian genocide in the country, the cleric said that the records of genocide against Christians in Nigeria are “incontrovertible,” adding that though planned and being “systematically executed from the early years of Nigeria,” have been accelerated since 2009.

Rev. Asheshe acknowledged that while it was true that Muslims have also suffered violence, Christians and Christian communities remain the primary targets of organized terror groups whose identities, motives, and operations are explicitly anti-Christian.

“There is clear, verifiable evidence of a systematic and coordinated campaign of terrorism against Christians in Nigeria.

“Hardly a day passes without reports of attacks on Christian communities, especially in Northern Nigeria, the Middle Belt, and parts of Western Nigeria. These assaults, alongside large-scale kidnappings, are overwhelmingly carried out by Boko Haram, Fulani militias, and other Islamic extremists, not Christians.

The cleric, who made reference to some documented evidence of Christian genocide in the country, explained that the sustained campaign is driven by attempts to “deliberately annihilate Christians to achieve an Islamization agenda.”

He attributed the displacement and dispossession of indigenous Christian communities, the seizure and occupation of their ancestral lands, and the economic strangulation to weakening the resilience of these communities and forcing them into submission.

While commending the Federal Government for its “decisive steps” towards confronting the persistent insecurity challenges, the ECWA scribe, however, tasked the Nigerian government to rise to its constitutional responsibilities to protect all citizens, regardless of their faith.

“We urge the international community, including the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU), and global human rights organizations, to urgently intervene and halt this genocide before it escalates further.

“The blood of innocent Nigerians, men, women, and children- cries for justice. The time to act is now, instead of denial!

“ECWA acknowledges that the journey towards sustainable peace and security is long, but every genuine step matters.”

The cleric advised the Federal Government to remain consistent, impartial, and resolute in its “renewed commitment” and cautioned against those he described as “insecurity sympathizers” who may be employed, appointed, or volunteering at various levels of government.

“We also urge continued collaboration with state governments, community leaders, and credible civil society organizations to ensure that these efforts translate into lasting peace on the ground.

“As a Church, ECWA remains committed to praying for the peace, unity, and prosperity of Nigeria.

“We stand ready to partner with all levels of government in promoting justice, peacebuilding, and community reconciliation,” Rev. Asheshe stated.
