Gov. Mutfwang, Gen. Danjuma, others eulogize late Prof. Adamu Baikie
Governor Caleb Mutfwang has described late Prof. David Adamu Baikie as a “Towering intellectual” whose life was devoted to the pursuit of knowledge, character formation, and the mentoring of generations of leaders across diverse disciplines.
A statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Dr. Gyang Bere, said Governor Mutfwang made the remarks during an evening of tributes in honour of the late renowned academic and education icon who passed on recently.
Mutfwang stated that Prof. Baikie’s commitment to education was not merely professional but deeply personal, driven by an unwavering belief that learning remains the surest pathway to individual empowerment and national development.
The governor acknowledged that, though he did not have a close personal relationship with the late Prof. Baikie, his biography revealed a life of remarkable impact. He observed that the erudite professor nurtured, groomed, and raised numerous leaders who are today serving the nation in various capacities.
Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to Gen. T. Y. Danjuma (Rtd) for the invitation to the event and urged like-minded individuals and institutions to ensure that the legacies and ideals of the late scholar continue to live on within and beyond the academic community.
In his tribute, former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, described the late Prof. Baikie as a giant in the education sector who lived a life of purpose, marked by integrity, academic excellence, and profound wisdom.
He added that the deceased was an accomplished academic, administrator, mentor to many, and a respected public intellectual who distinguished himself through excellence, integrity, and dedicated service.
Gen. Danjuma further stressed that Prof. Baikie’s contributions to the growth and strengthening of educational institutions, particularly in Northern Nigeria and beyond, remain indelible.
He emphasized that the late professor played a pivotal role in shaping academic standards, advancing scholarship, and instilling values of discipline, critical thinking, and ethical leadership in countless students who today occupy positions of responsibility across the globe.
Other eminent personalities who paid glowing tributes included former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana; Senator Tunde Ogbeha, the academic community, and many other well-wishers from across the country.
