GOV. MUTFWANG @ 61: CELEBRATING A LIFE DEFINED BY SERVICE, RESILIENCE AND PURPOSEFUL LEADERSHIP

True leadership is measured by character, and Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, continues to embody and exemplify this virtue. In both words and deeds, he demonstrates integrity, wisdom, and the fear of God in the stewardship of the affairs of the state.

On March 12, 2026, Governor Mutfwang, marked his 61st birthday — a remarkable milestone that offers an opportunity to reflect on a life defined by service, resilience, and purposeful leadership.

This occasion goes beyond the celebration of age; it is a moment to honour a leader whose journey from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of public service continues to inspire hope across Plateau State and Nigeria at large.

Barr. Mutfwang’s formative years laid the foundation for his remarkable leadership trajectory. From his education at Boys Secondary School, Gindiri, to his legal studies at the University of Jos, he demonstrated an enduring passion for knowledge, discipline, and excellence.

His leadership qualities were evident early in life. During his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service in Kaduna State, he served as President of the Nigerian Christian Corpers’ Fellowship, providing spiritual guidance and mentorship to young graduates.

His participation at the prestigious Haggai Institute for Leadership Development in Hawaii, United States of America, further sharpened his leadership outlook and prepared him for greater responsibilities in public life.

In the legal profession, Barr. Mutfwang distinguished himself through integrity, diligence, and professional competence. The establishment of his law firm, Caleb Mutfwang & Co., in 1996 marked the beginning of a thriving legal career. His service as Deputy General Manager, Legal and Secretarial Services at Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited, Kaduna, between 2002 and 2004 further solidified his reputation as a respected legal practitioner.

His eventual entry into politics was motivated by a sincere desire to serve the people and contribute to societal advancement. Known for his courage, humility, and inclusive leadership style, Barr. Mutfwang brought renewed purpose to governance. As Executive Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area in 2014, he initiated development programmes that left lasting impact on infrastructure, governance, and community relations.

In 2023, his dedication and commitment to the welfare of the people culminated in his election as Governor of Plateau State. Since assuming office, Governor Mutfwang has pursued a clear agenda centered on peacebuilding, institutional reform, and sustainable development.

His administration has recorded notable achievements, including the clearing of salary arrears owed to workers, revitalization of critical infrastructure, strengthening of healthcare delivery, expansion of educational opportunities, and renewed investment in agriculture as a driver of economic growth. These efforts among others continue to position Plateau State on a path toward stability, prosperity, and inclusive development.

Governor Mutfwang’s leadership and commitment to good governance earned him The Sun Newspaper Governor of the year 2024 and recently recognized as Governor of the Year 2025 at the prestigious Silverbird Man of the Year Award held at the iconic Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The award followed his administration’s bold strides in deploying technology to combat insecurity, driving infrastructural development across rural communities, and strengthening social services for the benefit of the people.

While receiving the award from veteran journalist and former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, Governor Mutfwang dedicated the honour to the resilient and peace-loving people of Plateau State.

He noted that the recognition symbolized the collective efforts of citizens who have remained steadfast in supporting his administration’s vision of unity, peace, and inclusive governance.

According to him, although Plateau State had in the past made headlines for unfortunate reasons, the narrative is gradually changing as the state emerges as a destination for investment and development.

Governor Mutfwang emphasized that sustainable peace can only be achieved when leaders rise above divisions and provide purposeful leadership that unites people across political, ethnic, and religious lines.

In another defining political moment, Governor Mutfwang’s historic reception into the All-Progressives Congress (APC) on January 27, 2026 at the Jos Polo Field marked what many observers have described as a turning point for Plateau State and the wider Middle Belt region.

The colourful event attracted thousands of supporters and political leaders from across the country, signaling a new phase of collaboration aimed at strengthening federal partnerships and accelerating development in Plateau State.

Speaking during the reception, Governor Mutfwang explained that his political realignment was driven solely by the collective interest of Plateau people and the need to deepen cooperation with the Federal Government in order to fast-track critical infrastructure and development projects.

The presence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside prominent national leaders and governors, further underscored the significance of the moment.

Notably, the announcement of the commencement of the long-awaited Akwanga–Jos Road project shortly after the event was widely interpreted as a major outcome of the renewed collaboration between Plateau State and the Federal Government.

Beyond politics and governance, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang remains widely admired as a mentor, a compassionate Christian, and a devoted family man whose life reflects humility, faith, and dedication to the service of humanity.

As he celebrates his 61st birthday, the people of Plateau State and well-wishers across Nigeria celebrate not only a leader but a statesman whose vision continues to inspire confidence in the promise of peace, unity, and sustainable development.
