Mwaghavul Youths Recover Rustled Cattle

One person was killed and four others injured when gunmen attacked Dushwar-Jwak community in Panyam District of Mangu Local Government Area in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026.

The Mwaghavul Youth Movement said the attack, which occurred between 1:15 am and 1:30 am, involved both cattle rustling and shooting. The deceased was identified as Mr. Tapji Shakuma, 23, who died from gunshot wounds.

Those receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the attack are Mr. Hosea Shehu, Mrs. Walmun Hosea, 50, Mr. Simon Hosea, 26, and Mr. Kwopnaan Hosea, 21.

Despite the violence, the Movement said swift mobilization by community youths from Panyam and Pushit, with support from military personnel, led to the successful recovery of all the rustled cattle. The attackers reportedly fled the scene.

In a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Tubwot Joël Sunday, the Mwaghavul Youth Movement commended the courage and vigilance of the youths and security operatives.

“This demonstrates that criminality will not prevail where communities remain united, vigilant, and determined to defend lawful order,” the statement said.

The group condemned the attack and issued a strong warning to criminal elements.

“We issue a strong warning to all criminal elements and perpetrators of violence that Mangu Local Government Area is not and will never become a haven for criminals,” it stated.

The Movement also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.

It urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies through community leaders.

The MYM reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding property, and promoting lasting peace across Mwaghavul land and the entire Mangu LGA.
