JNI Disowns Viral Report Claiming “100% Support” for Sheik Jingir

• Islamic body says publication is fake, calls for security investigation to prevent religious tension

The Plateau State Chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has distanced itself from a viral social media post claiming the organization endorsed Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir “100%” over his comments on the Muslim-Muslim ticket, describing it as fabricated and aimed at inciting religious division.

In a statement signed by Publicity Secretary Gambo Hamza on August 10, 2026, JNI said the publication with the headline “We Stand with Sheikh Jingir 100%: JNI Plateau Media Aide Defends Islamic Cleric’s Anti-Christian Comments” was “fake, unfounded and does not represent the position of JNI Plateau State.”

JNI clarified that while Sheikh Jingir is entitled to his personal views as a religious leader, such opinions do not reflect the official stance of the organization.

“Consequently, JNI Plateau State neither endorsed nor authorized any statement purporting to support Sheikh Jingir ‘100%’ in relation to the Muslim-Muslim ticket or any other partisan political position,” the statement read.

The body emphasized that JNI is a broad-based Islamic organization focused on peace, unity, religious understanding, and welfare, and “does not ordinarily take sides in partisan political contests or endorse particular candidates, parties or political arrangements.”

JNI also debunked claims linked to an individual named Abdulsalam Ahmad, saying the organization does not have any position designated as Special Adviser on New Media and has no official by that name.

“The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) therefore categorically disassociates itself from the individual and any statement purportedly issued by him in the name of the organization,” the statement said.

The chapter expressed concern that the fabricated attribution was designed to “create religious tension, misrepresent the position of JNI, and damage the longstanding efforts of religious leaders and organizations toward peaceful coexistence on the Plateau.

“Differences of opinion, including those expressed by individual religious scholars, should not be weaponized to create division between Muslims and Christians,” JNI stated.

It urged the public and media to verify any statement attributed to the organization with its authorized leadership before publication, and called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible.

JNI reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence among the diverse religious and ethnic communities in Plateau State.

“We consequently call on the relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter with a view to identifying, apprehending and prosecuting the individual behind this false representation, in accordance with the law,” the statement concluded.
