Int’l Youth Day: Young people are “indispensable partners” in peace, development, and the future of Plateau – Gov. Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has celebrated youths of the state on the 2026 International Youth Day, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to youth inclusion, skills development, and job creation.
In a goodwill message released on August 12, 2026 and signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, the governor described young people as a “vital force in shaping a peaceful, prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Plateau.”
Governor Mutfwang commended Plateau youths for their “resilience, creativity, courage, and contributions to community development and sustainability” across the state.
“The strength of Plateau lies in the energy, creativity, talents, and determination of our young people,” he said.
“As we celebrate International Youth Day, I urge our youths to believe in themselves, embrace opportunities, uphold peace, and remain committed to building a stronger, more prosperous, and united Plateau State.”
He added, “We will continue to listen to your aspirations and create opportunities for you to participate meaningfully in governance and the development of our State. Your future is inseparable from the future of Plateau.”
On the theme and focus for 2026, the governor noted that this year’s global theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” provides an opportunity for governments, communities, and development partners to reflect on challenges facing young people and strengthen practical measures to help them realize their potential.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where Plateau youths can acquire relevant skills, access local and global opportunities, develop entrepreneurial capacity, and participate in governance.
Addressing youth challenges, Mutfwang acknowledged unemployment, limited access to economic opportunities, skills gaps, and pressures from a rapidly changing global economy as some of the key challenges confronting young people.
He said his administration is taking “deliberate steps” in collaboration with institutions such as the Bank of Industry to expand economic opportunities and empower Plateau citizens, particularly young people.
The governor urged youths to channel their energy into education, innovation, entrepreneurship, technology, agriculture, and creative industries — sectors he said are capable of creating jobs, promoting self-reliance, and strengthening their contribution to the state’s economic and social transformation.
On policies and programmes, the governor assured that his administration will continue to support policies and programmes that expand opportunities for youth development, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, employment, empowerment, and meaningful participation in governance.
On behalf of his family, the government, and the people of Plateau, he wished all Plateau youths “a happy and meaningful 2026 International Youth Day,” and assured them of his administration’s continued commitment to their development and inclusion.
