Plateau Specialist Hospital Denies Abandoning Angwan Rukuba Easter Tragedy Survivor

The Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Jos, has denied claims that it abandoned Mr. Jeremiah Bala, a survivor of the Angwan Rukuba Easter tragedy, saying his treatment remains ongoing.
The hospital made this known while reacting to a Facebook video by a content creator featuring Mr. Bala.
In a statement on Monday signed by its Assistant Public Relations Officer, Hadiza Dabit, for the Chief Medical Director, the hospital said Bala has been under the care of its neurosurgeons and other specialists and has been fully informed about his condition, treatment plan and need for follow-up.
The PSSH said Bala underwent several investigations, including CT scans, to locate the retained bullet.
“Following specialist assessment, it was established that the bullet is lodged in a highly sensitive area of the brain, close to critical blood vessels and nerves, making surgical removal potentially hazardous,” the statement said.
The hospital said its multidisciplinary team has continued to manage the condition conservatively based on best clinical judgment.

It added that Bala’s last clinic review was on July 28, 2026, and his next appointment is scheduled for October 20, 2026, unless an earlier review is required.
“In view of the above, it is clear that neither the Hospital nor the Plateau State Government has abandoned Mr. Bala or discontinued his care from the point of admission to date. His treatment remains an ongoing clinical responsibility,” the hospital stated.
The management expressed concern about the recent social media video, describing it as the second by the content creator identified as Osama on the patient.
It said that, to its knowledge, the content creator did not contact the hospital or its management to verify the patient’s clinical status before publishing the claims.
The hospital explained that matters involving vulnerable patients, especially survivors of traumatic incidents, require confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards, which it said the video breached.
“While we recognize the positive role content creators can play in drawing attention to issues of public concern, such efforts should not inadvertently cause distress, misinformation or undermine the professional management of patients,” it said.
The hospital urged the public to rely on verified information from medical professionals and institutions regarding Bala’s condition and care.
It also thanked Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, for his continued support toward the treatment of Bala and other survivors of the Angwan Rukuba tragedy.
The Plateau State Specialist Hospital said it remains committed to providing appropriate, compassionate and professional care to Mr. Bala and all patients under its care.
