3 KILLED AS ARMED ATTACKERS STORM TOROK COMMUNITY IN PLATEAU, YOUTH GROUP DEMANDS MANHUNT

Three people were killed on Wednesday evening when gunmen attacked Torok community in Rim Village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, has said.

In a press statement issued Thursday, BYM said the attack occurred at about 5:23 p.m. on 8 July 2026. The victims were named as Ezekiel Zakka, David Yakubu, and Dauda Habila.

The group, led by Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, condemned the attack as “barbaric” and sent condolences to the families of the victims and to the Berom Nation.

“This latest massacre is another painful reminder of the worsening security situation facing Berom communities,” the statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Rwang Tengwong said.

BYM alleged that the attackers came from the Fulani Settlement at Bangai and called on security agencies to “immediately launch a comprehensive manhunt” for them, ensure their arrest, and prosecute them.

“Anything short of this will only embolden criminal elements to continue their campaign of terror against innocent communities,” it added.

The association said the continued killings are “no longer isolated incidents but a clear pattern that demands urgent and decisive intervention.”

It called on the Plateau State Government and the Federal Government to take “concrete, coordinated action” to protect vulnerable communities in Riyom and across the state.

Specific measures demanded include strengthened intelligence gathering, sustained deployment of security personnel to identified flashpoints, and “the dismantling of criminal hideouts from which these attacks are being launched.”

BYM also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing “credible and timely intelligence.”

“We will continue to advocate relentlessly for justice for the victims, the arrest and prosecution of the attackers, and lasting peace and security across Berom land,” the statement said.

There was no immediate response from the Plateau State Police Command or the state government as of press time.
