• ELECTS OMIDIJI AS TRUSTEE, MADUBUKO AS VICE PRESIDENT

Rev. Ayuba Asheshe has been re-elected as the ECWA General Secretary for another term in office, while Rev. Chidi Joseph Madubuko emerged as the new ECWA Vice President.

Rev. Madubuko succeeds Rev. Stephen Ajise, who has completed his two-term tenure of six years. He brings a wealth of pastoral and leadership experience to the role.

Similarly, Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Babatunde Omidiji was elected as the new Trustee representing zone 9. He takes over from Engineer J.Y Asonibare, who has served his 10-year tenure as a member of the ECWA Board of Trustees.

The trio emerged during an election conducted at the just-concluded 73rd General Church Council (GCC) meeting in Jos, Plateau State.

The General Church Council is the highest decision-making organ of the Church and is made up of delegates from 96 DCCs within and outside Nigeria, including the ECWA Departments, Institutions, and the registered Trustees of the Church.

In his address at the opening of the meeting, ECWA President Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat expressed gratitude to God for sustaining the denomination even in times marked by “both unprecedented challenges and remarkable opportunities across our nation and the global community.”

The cleric said, “As we gather here today, we are not unaware of the realities that define our world. In Nigeria and beyond, many of our members are facing severe economic pressures, rising living costs, insecurity, social uncertainties, and the unsettling effects of global instability. Families are striving daily to meet basic needs, young people are navigating uncertain futures, and communities are grappling with fear and displacement. These realities call for more than concern; they demand thoughtful, prayerful, and decisive engagement from us as leaders of faith.”

He added that it has become even more incumbent on church leaders to stand as bearers of hope, voices of truth, and instruments of God’s comfort and guidance.

He reminded the Church leaders that the calling upon them is not only to acknowledge these challenges but to respond with wisdom, compassion, and practical solutions that will strengthen the Church and positively impact the society around them.

In his address that captured an account of his stewardship in the past year, Rev Dr. Bagat highlighted that while the leadership recognizes the complexities of governance and the limitations of human systems, the ECWA President reiterated that the ultimate security and hope are found in the abiding presence of the Lord.

“Our confidence does not rest in the absence of trials, but in the assurance that God is with us, guiding, sustaining, and empowering us to persevere and overcome,” he stated.

The 5-day meeting reviewed mission progress and deliberated on Church-related matters and other sundry issues.
