The Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, has called on the Nigerian Government and security agencies to take “immediate, sustained and effective” action to end attacks in Plateau communities, saying expressions of concern are no longer enough.
In a statement issued on August 26, 2026 and signed by National Publicity Secretary Rwang Tengwong, the group condemned the latest attack at Gwa-Rim in Rim, Riyom LGA, where three vigilante members were killed on the night of August 25.
The victims were identified as Joshua Badung, 31; Innocent Caleb, 28; and Ayuba Adamu, 34.
BYM said they were community members who took on the responsibility of protecting their people.
The youth group said the killings are a “painful reminder of the grave risks communities continue to face amid the prevailing insecurity.”
“For too long, communities have endured killings followed by condolences, promises and assurances, only for further attacks to occur. This cycle must end,” the statement read.
BYM said the situation “has reached a point where expressions of concern are no longer sufficient” and urged the government to move beyond statements.
BYM called on the Nigerian Government and security agencies to demonstrate commitment to protecting lives through concrete security measures in vulnerable communities.
It also appealed to the international community, including the United Nations, human rights organizations, diplomatic missions and international media, “not to ignore the deteriorating security situation.”
“We urge them to call on the Nigerian Government to move beyond assurances and implement concrete measures to stop the killings, protect vulnerable communities and ensure that perpetrators are held accountable,” the statement said.
“The people of Plateau State should not have to wait for another attack before their safety becomes a priority. How many more lives must be lost before decisive action replaces assurances?”
