The National Orientation Agency, NOA, Plateau State Directorate, has urged residents of the state to remain calm and vigilant following the confirmation of an Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, on Monday, October 20, 2026, confirmed a case of Ebola involving a woman who recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda. The patient is currently in isolation and receiving medical care.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, October 21, in Jos, the State Director of NOA Plateau, Mrs. Kaneng Tabitha Pam-Hworo, said relevant health authorities have commenced contact tracing and intensified surveillance to prevent further spread.

She urged residents to take the development seriously without giving in to panic, rumours or misinformation, stressing that public awareness, early reporting and adherence to health guidelines are essential.
According to the agency, Ebola is spread through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person showing symptoms, a person who died from the disease, or contaminated materials. It is not transmitted by a person before symptoms begin.
The Directorate advised the public to maintain good personal hygiene by washing hands regularly with soap and clean water or using alcohol-based sanitizer, avoid contact with body fluids of suspected cases, and be alert to symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, vomiting and diarrhea.
It also urged prompt reporting of suspected cases to public health authorities, advising persons with symptoms to avoid close contact and seek medical advice before visiting a health facility.

The NOA further called on residents to cooperate with health authorities during monitoring, avoid misinformation and stigmatization, and rely only on verified information from the Federal Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC, and other authorized agencies.
The agency also called on public and private healthcare facilities in Plateau to maintain a high level of alertness, enforce strict infection prevention and control measures, and promptly isolate and report suspected cases.
Mrs. Pam-Hworo recalled Nigeria’s successful containment of the 2014 Ebola outbreak and called for continued public cooperation to prevent transmission.
She advised members of the public to contact the NCDC toll-free line 6232 for information or to report suspected cases.
