Overnight Attack Left 30 Dead in Kaduna Village

At least 30 people, including women and 8 children, were killed in the early hours of Monday, July 27, 2026, after suspected armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Naridom Community in Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack, which lasted for over three hours from about 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m., also left 4 people injured and led to the burning of 2 houses and 4 shops, according to a security report by the TP-MPF Security Desk.

Residents said the attackers opened fire indiscriminately on sleeping residents before setting homes and businesses ablaze. By the time the assailants withdrew, community members were left recovering bodies and depositing them at the morgue. The death toll may rise as searches continue.

Of the 30 confirmed dead, 22 were from the same family, the Rana clan, it was gathered.

One family, identified as Mr. Emma’s, reportedly lost about five children. Two of the victims have so far been buried.

A resident of the area, Mr. Barnabas Musa, said distress calls started coming in between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. and continued until the attack subsided.

Another community member, Comrade Friday Ango, described the incident as “one of the worst to hit the community.”

“We are still going from house to house to recover corpses. The full list of victims is still being compiled as more bodies are being brought out,” Ango said.

Kauru LGA and Chawai Chiefdom have suffered a sustained pattern of killings, kidnappings, and displacements in recent years.

Communities have repeatedly appealed to the Kaduna State Government and security agencies for protection, citing coordinated night-time attacks on largely farming communities.

The report noted serious protection concerns: vulnerability of civilians, especially women, children and the elderly; limited security presence; risk of further displacement to towns like Saminaka and Zaria; and psychological trauma for survivors.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the attack.

The TP-MPF Security Desk called for the immediate deployment of security personnel to Naridom and other vulnerable communities in Chawai Chiefdom and Kauru LGA, the prompt investigation and prosecution of perpetrators by the Kaduna State Police Command, and urgent medical and psychosocial support for survivors.

It further called for deployment of relief materials for affected and displaced families.

The TP-MFP Security Desk also recommended establishing a verified list of victims by community and traditional leaders, as well as sustained early-warning and early-response systems in Kauru LGA.

It also advocated for government engagement with security agencies and community leaders to address root causes of recurring attacks in Southern Kaduna, including Kajuru and Kachia LGAs.

The Naridom attack adds to the long pattern of violence in Southern Kaduna.

The TP-MFP Security Desk report warned that security risks in parts of the region remain “very HIGH” and urged Governor Uba Sani to give serious attention to affected areas to mitigate further loss of lives, kidnappings, and displacement.
