BYM Hails Military for Foiling Ambush, Arresting Bandit in Barkin Ladi

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, has commended personnel of Operation Enduring Peace, popularly known as the Special Task Force, STF, for foiling an ambush along the Dorowa Babuje axis in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The association said the incident occurred on Thursday, October 15, 2026, when Mr Gyang Luka, a staff member of Eliztor Private School, Barkin Ladi, and his son were attacked while travelling on a motorcycle.
According to BYM, the victims, who are residents of Fan District, were ambushed by suspected bandits identified as Fulani militants.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the group said the swift response of the military led to the arrest of one of the suspected terrorists and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle. At the same time, other members of the gang escaped towards a Fulani settlement in the Jong area of Ropp District.
BYM saluted the security operatives’ gallantry and urged the military to sustain its efforts through intensified patrols and intelligence-led operations.

The association called for a comprehensive and discreet investigation into banditry and terrorist networks, including tracking down fleeing suspects to their hideouts in Jong and other locations.
The group also expressed concern over a video circulating on social media, which it described as appearing to be AI-doctored and allegedly showing “Berom militias” moving to attack Fulani communities.
BYM said the narrative in the video contradicts information about the Dorowa Babuje incident and risks distorting facts.
It urged the military to invite the creator of the video for questioning, noting that a critical examination of the footage raises serious questions in light of the intelligence-led operation involving security personnel and local vigilantes.
The association warned that such content, potentially circulated by sympathizers of armed groups, undermines accountability, fuels tension and diverts attention from security challenges in Plateau, the Middle Belt and other parts of Nigeria.
It urged security agencies, media organizations and social media users to verify footage before sharing, stressing that modern technology has enabled fabricated content to thrive where allegations are not investigated.
BYM maintained that protection of lives and property must remain paramount and that the arrest should lead to further efforts to dismantle networks responsible for attacks on citizens.
